  8.  This document covers material NOT contained in the user's guide.
  9.  Please read ALL of this information carefully!
  10.  
  11.  We suggest that you print this file so you can have a hard copy for a 
  12.  reference as you setup Zip Manager. To print it you can use the windows
  13.  notepad Print command from the File Menu, or from the DOS prompt type
  14.  "copy readme.txt prn" without the quotes.  This will copy the file to
  15.  your default printer on LPT1.
  16.

  18.  The Zip Manager 4.0 ZIP (ZM4.ZIP) file is in 1.10 format. Please leave
  19.  it in 1.10 ZIP format if you upload it to any BBS, or give a copy to
  20.  a friend.

  23.  In order to setup and install Zip Manager Correctly you MUST follow the
  24.  steps outlined below.  Zip Manager 4.0 has so many powerful features it is 
  25.  critical that you take the time to set it up correctly before using it for 
  26.  the first time.
  27.  
  28.  PKZIP 'UNZIP VERSION 1.10 and 2.04G SUPPORT
  29.  ---------------------------------------------
  30.  Zip Manager supports both versions 1.10 and 2.04G.  It automatically
  31.  detects which version you are using each time the program starts.
  32.  
  33.  PLEASE NOTE - You Can Use PKZIP 1.10 and PKUNZIP 2.04 At The Same Time
  34.  -----------
  35.  You CAN USE PKZIP 1.10 AND PKUNZIP 2.04G AT THE SAME TIME if you need
  36.  to make 1.10 compatible Zip files and avoid the errors when extracting
  37.  2.0 format Zip Files as mentioned in the next paragraph.

  39.  The Zip Manager 4.0 Program Files
  40.  --------------------------------- 
  41.  The Zip Manager program files are in compressed format. You must run the
  42.  ZM4SETUP program to expand them before the program can be used.  The
  43.  setup program will create a Program Manager group and add the program
  44.  files and other important files to the group.

  46.  PLEASE NOTE:
  47.  ------------
  48.  You must run ZM4SETUP.EXE from the Windows Program Manager.  Other shells
  49.  like the Norton Desktop or PC Tools for Windows are not 100% compatible
  50.  with our setup program and may cause it to fail when attempting to create 
  51.  the Zip Manager 4.0 Group.

  53.  Step 1
  54.  Running The ZM4SETUP Program
  55.  ----------------------------
  56.  After extracting the ZM4.ZIP file to either a directory on your hard drive
  57.  or to a floppy drive. Start Windows and make sure that the Windows 
  58.  Program Manager is running.
  59.  
  60.  1. From the Program Manager File Menu choose Run...
  61.  2. Enter the location of the ZM4SETUP Program. If the files were on your
  62.     A: drive then you would enter: A:\ZM4SETUP and press Enter or Click on 
  63.     the OK button.
  64.  3. The Zip Manager 4.0 setup dialog will be displayed.
  65.  4. The edit field will display a suggested directory.
  66.  5. Press OK to accept the default directory or enter new destination
  67.     directory and press Enter or Click on the OK button.
  68.  6. The setup program will create the directory for you and display
  69.     the file installation progress.
  70.  7. When it has finished expanding and copying the files it will create
  71.     a new Program Manager Group and add the program files to the group.
  72.     Now you can proceed with the next step.

  74.  Step 2
  75.  Copying The Archive Programs To
  76.  Your Zip Manager Directory
  77.  ----------------------------
  78.  You MUST copy PKZIP.EXE, and PKUNZIP.EXE from their current location on 
  79.  your drive into the Zip Manager directory.  The program will Not run unless 
  80.  it finds these files located in the same directory with the Zip Manager 
  81.  program files.  Any additional programs you plan to use must also be 
  82.  located in the Zip Manager directory.

  84.  For Complete Functionality the following files should be located in your
  85.  Zip Manager 4.0 directory:
  86.  PKZIP.EXE    ----> Required
  87.  PKUNZIP.EXE  ----> Required
  88.  ZIP2EXE.EXE  ----> Optional
  89.  PKZIPFIX.EXE ----> Optional
  90.  ARJ.EXE      ----> Optional - * Required if you want to use ARJ compression
  91.  Any other program like your Virus detection program and alternate archive
  92.  extraction programs such as LHARC, or ARC-E.

  94.  Step 3 
  95.  To Complete The Installation
  96.  ----------------------------
  97.  After the installation program is finished you MUST read the installation
  98.  section of the Users' Guide.  You will see its icon in the Zip Manager 4.0
  99.  group. You must setup the program's default directories, and configure
  100.  the program to work with your Virus Detection software.  In addition there
  101.  are several VERY IMPORTANT changes you need to make to your WIN.INI,
  102.  AUTOEXEC.BAT, and CONFIG.SYS files.

  105.                     Important Notes and New Features
  106.  *************************************************************************
  107.  
  108.  This version of Zip Manager has so many commands and options it is
  109.  imperative the your read the users manual BEFORE using the program.  At
  110.  least read the Drag and Drop Reference and The Using File Manager with
  111.  Zip Manager sections.  
  112.  
  113.  If you want to use Norton Desktop for Windows you MUST have Version 2.2 or 
  114.  later to  use it with Zip Manager. 
  115.  
  116.  The documentation is in windows write format and it is the manual.wri file
  117.  that was installed with your program files.
  118.  
  119.  New Hot Key
  120.  -----------
  121.  In order to make it easier to quickly change directories we added an new 
  122.  accelerator key combination.  Now ALT + D will call the change directory 
  123.  dialog box.
  124.  
  125.  Known Video Card Problem
  126.  -------------------------
  127.  The Diamond Stealth VRAM Card has a bug in either its Windows Drivers on a
  128.  hardware related bug that causes the following problem.
  129.  
  130.  When attempting to run PKZIP in a DOS Window no text is visible.  The only
  131.  thing you will see is a flashing cursor.  All of the text is being displayed
  132.  black on black.  Zip Manager is still functioning normally and the archive
  133.  command will be completed successfully.

  135.  No other hardware problems are known at the time of this release.
